Joy has wanted to write and illustrate children’s books for as long as she can remember.
She started her professional life as a graphic designer, but after the birth of her daughter, decided to pursue her dream. In 1999 Joy illustrated Let’s Talk About the Sabbath, written by venerated Jewish children’s author, Dorothy Kripke.
Next, she wrote and illustrated The Great Potato Plan and The Secret Tunnel for a series of early chapter books by Hachai Publishing. Based on Joy’s family history in WWI Poland, The Great Potato Plan is a tale of courage and determination. The Secret Tunnel chronicles the construction of an ancient aqueduct in biblical Jerusalem. Both books create page-turning adventure stories from real-life events.
Joy has also written and illustrated for the educational market, including an English Language Learners book for Rigby and illustrations for a reading program for Palmtree Publishing.
In 2004 Joy’s manuscript, “Rivkah and the Mice,” was chosen Best Picture Book Text in the Jewish Children’s Bookfest writing contest. She is currently searching for a home for her award-winning story.
Joy is a full member of SCBWI. She resides in the Boston suburbs along with her children, her husband, a dog, a cat, and a fish, all of whom inspire and support her children’s stories.
